Step-by-Step Instructions
- Double click on My Computer from your desktop.
- Double click on Dial-Up Networking.
- Open Make New Connection.
- Enter East Texas Rural Net in the first blank space.
Your modem device will be displayed in the lower box. There should
be no need to change this information. Press the NEXT
button when done.
- Press the Tab key to leave the Area Code blank. Enter either the
local access number you have been provided or 1-866-663-3679
in the Telephone Number box. (There are no additional
charges for using the Toll-Free access number) Press NEXT.
- Press the FINISH button.
- Right click on your new connection then click on
Properties. The icon should be labeled as “East
Texas Rural Net”.
- Make sure the "Use country and area code"
box is unchecked.
- Select the "Server Types" tab and make
sure the selections are the same as in the window below. Clicking
on a box will remove or add a check mark.
- Click on the "TCP/IP Settings" button
and make sure the selections are the same as in the window below.
Then click OK.
- Now start your browser and you should get a dialup sign on screen.
If not:
- Complete steps 1 and 2.
- You should see a new icon labeled “East Texas Rural Net”.
Double click on it.
- Enter your dialup username. Use the username in the box on your
account information sheet provided. Username should start with be
the same as the primary email address on the account. The format of
the username should resemble: myaccount@etxrn.com
- Press tab and enter your password.
- Click on the box next to “Save Password”.
- Now press the “Connect” button.
- You should see a dialup dialog window. Your computer will begin
the connection process.
- Once connected, the dialup connection dialog window will disappear.
Look at the bottom right of your screen for two small computers. This
means you are connected.
- You can now launch your Internet browser. Double click on the browser
icon. Samples shown.
- To disconnect when done:
a) Right click on the two computers at the bottom right.
b) Select disconnect and press the left button.
Place your new dialup icon on your desktop
- Double click on My Computer from your desktop.
- Double click on Dial-Up Networking.
- Right click on the icon labeled East Texas Rural Net.
- Click on Create Shortcut.Then click on YES to place the shortcut
on your desktop.
- Close this window and you should see a new icon your desktop.
